Sedibeng Grand Prix
Round 5 of 2008/2009 Season

Exciting Racing at the Vaal River

Pole position did not go in favour of Dixon Batteries pilots Paul & Robert Shepard. Paul experienced problems in qualifying which saw him line up 4th on the grid. The gremlins followed Robert from Queenstown and he did not complete qualifying.

Paul Shepard

Paul Shepard had a bad start to the first heat but did not give up his pursuit of first place. The race was stopped due to Erik Stark’s accident. Stark was chasing de Jager and got caught in her spray; he did not see the buoy and hit it. This caused him to fly into the air and go over backwards. On the restart Stuart set off in the lead followed by de Jager. Shepard, who was in third position hunted down the two front runners and ended in first place.

Robert Shepard

The second heat was red flagged when there was incident between Paul Shepard and Elzane de Jager. Shepard was lucky enough to restart the heat with little damage to his boat. De Jager was not so lucky and had to remain in the banks for the rest of the heat. Paul Shepard claimed victory of that heat followed by Steven Zungu. Robert Shepard came home in 5th place.

Paul Shepard

Paul Shepard took a comfortable lead in the third heat but for the third time today the course was red flagged. This time the unlucky pilot was Darren Beattie who barrel rolled his boat in the top corner. After the restart Paul streaked ahead followed by Robert Shepard and Steven Zungu who finished 3rd and 4th respectively.
